Re: the Flanker shuffle

Algeria is now the last operator of the Mig 25 but already ordered Su-34 to replace them. Yes, unfortunately, they will be phased soon. The last Russian ones, Recce and twi-seaters, were phased out 3-4 years ago if I remember well. Some Libyan group made one airworthy a few month ago, just to crash...

Re: Russian Air Force operating over Syria

Re: 2016 Belgian Air Force: Falcon 20 retirement, Falcon 900

On the other hand, having two airbases equipped for use of combat aircraft is also necessary under circumstances like long-lasting runway repair, exceptional weather conditions, important accident at one location, not to talk in the case of civil unrest or war. Beauvechain isn't really available (an...

Re: Su-24 shot down near Syrian/Turkish border

Lucky Turkish Top guns !! What a chance the F-16Cs were just right there at the very right moment during those (alleged, still not proven) 2 x 7 seconds (or unique few seconds) lasting air space violation(s) and, after the (also alleged) 10 warnings, managed to 1. put themself in firing position, 2....

Re: Su-24 shot down near Syrian/Turkish border

So we'll maybe agree on (only) one thing : it had nothing to do with defending one's own life, but just with politics. Without saying officially, Turkey is just backing some local armed groups. That's all... For the rest, international rules apply also in this case as Russia and Turkey are not at wa...

Moldovan helicopter downed by Taliban

It looks like it is a privately owned Mi-8.
3 or 4 killed. 18 captured.
Some of those helicopters are usually based at Chisinau airport.

Re: Su-24 shot down near Syrian/Turkish border

Violating airspace is a legimite reason to intercept military aircraft and shoot them down after warning them. Where the aircraft is crashing does not change that. Remember Russia had been warned many times. So Turkey has every right to act. Besides, Russia had shot down a lot of aircraft during th...
