Yes he mean that the 15 Hornets and 5 Tigers will fly the whole week (calendar week 40, 1-7 October). "Strabante" is the first bigger exercise since 1991 and all parts of airforce are involved.
Hello fellow spotters...

I have been to Meiringen two weeks ago (see topics here http://forum.scramble.nl/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=74562 and here http://forum.scramble.nl/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=74601) i had two beautifull days and boy, can you get close to the action there! It made me so enthusiastic, that i want to plan a spotting trip to Zwitserland. 1-7 October seems to be a very good week with lots of action and even the tigers flying....

My question is, what bases besides Meiringen are allso intersting to visit that week? don't know how many bases Zwitserland has in totall, what is stationed there and if you can get as close on the other bases as you can on Meiringen...

All info would be helpfull!

Grtz,
Menno
Maybe more interesting for you as a(n outstanding) photographer is considering going the following week, week 41, as there will be the annual Axalp Fliegerschiessen.

More info on http://www.lw.admin.ch/internet/luftwaf ... axalp.html

Instead of landing, taxiway and take off pictures you can take pics like these ones I made last year:

etc., etc., etc...

And for a photographer like you I guess this is also very interesting...

The other air force bases are Alpnach, Dübendorf, Emmen, Payerne, Sion and Locarno. I think the operations on that fields will be limited. Payerne, the main airbase of SwissAF will be calm (maybe 10-20 HO/TI per Day) because most of the aircrafts are in Meiringen. Alpnach the same because most of helicopters will coming from Payerne. Emmen ist mostly rather quiet (between 0-10 HO/TI per day) but has continuous flights with prop aircrafts like Pc-21. Dübendorf has an excellent museum. Sion has no planned military activities and Locarno I don't know .

Buochs is no longer an active military field and has mainly civil flights. But they currently have training flights with the Pc-21 for the UAE. Alle airbases have similar opportunities to take some photos.

Are you sure the choppers will operate from Payerne? I read somewhere that at least some choppers would fly from the airport of Sankt Stephan, this airport was also mentioned in connection to the Stabante exercise?

The official place of the air transport repetition course (helicopters, LT Geschwader 1) is Payerne but you are right they have a temporary base at St.Stephan.

Great log! My only comment is that J-3053 was sold to the US Navy, so I very much doubt you really saw this one..?

In the small (museum) hangar near the point were you can cross the runway there is an F-5 J-3096 there also used to be an Alouette III V-222
this one was now in the hangars on the other side, it is missing it,s tail boom.

I am sure I saw an Alouette next to the F-5 J-3096...but which one ??

The Allouette was V-236 on 16/09/11, and looked well preserved so I assume this must be the one that now belongs to the museum?
