I still await any confirmation of an USMC F/A-18 swap at Al Asad AB, Iraq.

Any new info about the announced Hornets? Meanwhile, I made my homework and I can tell you that VMFA(AW)-225 "Vikings" (deployed for six months since late August 2007) will be replaced at Al Asad Airfield, Iraq, by another USMC Hornet squadron.

Very rare official photo coverage of an VMFA(AW)-225 jet (tactical number 04), deployed to Iraq, is provided by USAF´s 332nd AEW´s public website, taken during a combat transit (diverting) at Balad AB, Iraq.

Sorry! But at least currently I have no idea which USMC Hornet squadron will replace VMFA(AW)-225 at Al Asad. But it´s possible that both squadron elements will make deployment/redeployment stopovers at Lajes.

Anybody on Scramble who is also special interested in OIF combat deployments of F/A-18s, AV-8Bs and EA-6Bs to Al Asad Airfield, Iraq? If yes, please send me a message!

J.J., it was a wild guess from me that it will be usmc one's, i was noticed that a usmc unit is in the middle east at the moment, but we will see what will show up at Lajes the 25 Feb......

The 4 mentioned F-16's did not showd up last week at Lajes.

Currently there is no news to announce..........

nice weekend everyone.

Thanks for your reply, George (aka falcon)! We really must await what currently happens at Al Asad Airfield. But let me tell you: As a member of the F-16.net staff, since late 2005 I was mainly focused on F-16 OEF/OIF combat deployments. But in the next couple of days, I will update most of my own OEF/OIF archives related to deployed USMC aircraft.

I think Retro 45 was the remaining Aviano delivery, 88-0510/AV. The other 2 AV vipers depart end January, as this one was still present these days.......

maybe the Spang spotters can confirm this.

grtz
George.
