Factsheet
A380 operations at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol
Use of runways
The following restrictions apply to the use of runways by A380:
Runway Remarks
RWY 04-22 Take-off and landing not allowed due to nonprepared
area’s adjacent to RWY shoulders (also
LDA en TORA limited to 2014 meters). RWY width
(including shoulders) limited to 60 meters.
RWY 09-27* Take-off prohibited due to limited strength of
RWY section between N4 and N5
RWY 24 Landing not allowed due to insufficient wingtip
clearance at TWY Romeo
* RWY 09 serves as a departure RWY in non-preferential runway combinations. When
other departure RWYs are available, alternate SIDs can be used by A380 for easterly
departures.
Example:
Departure RW's 36L + 09 in use during marginal visibility. RWY 36L serves westerly and
northerly departures - RWY 09 serves easterly and southerly departures.
A380 departure from RWY 09 is not allowed. Alternate solution for A380 will be to file an
easterly departure from RWY 36L (ARNEM 1V).
A380 landings, performed by using ILS, shall be made in the AUTO LAND mode in order
to ensure maximum track-accuracy to RWY centerline (ref. ICAO Circulair 301). This
operation allows the use of Runway Holding Positions (RHP) at 90 meters from RWY
centerline, even when Code F operations are in progress. During Low Visibility Procedures
(LVP), RHP, marked by stopbars, are located at 150 meters from RWY centerline. LVP at
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is in force when RVR is 1500 meters or less and/or cloudbase
is 300 ft or less
A380 may perform visual landings with RHP at 90 meters from RWY centerline
Use of taxiways
General
The CAA Netherlands has adopted the AACG standards laid down in the ‘AACG Common
Agreement Document’. For the use of TWYs a TWY-strip of 49 meters, center to object, is
applicable. For aircraft stand taxilanes this value is 47.5 meters. Area’s where access of
A380 is not allowed are indicated by MAX SPAN markings.
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol
Airside Operations
Date: July 23th 2012 (V1.4)
The following restrictions apply to the use of taxiways by A380:
All aircraft stand taxilanes except A12, A13, A19 (upto stand G09), A20 and S2 are
prohibited for use by A380 due to wingspan restrictions.
TWY Romeo between stands R77 and R85 prohibited for taxiing A380 due to
insufficient wingtip clearance to adjacent aircraft stands and service road.
Wingtip clearance between A380 taxiing on TWY Alfa between link A1 and A3 is
limited to a minimum of 5 meters reference vehicles on service road. A height restriction
of 3.8 meters applies for vehicles on service roads. At this part of TWY Alfa, A380 shall
operate only under supervision.
The use of engine thrust more than GROUND IDLE PWR on outer engines is prohibited
on TWY Quebec. Motorway A4 lies underneath TWY Quebec and the possible negative
effect of jetblast from A380 outer engines is undetermined.
90 degree turns in TWY curves require judgemental oversteering by A380
Access to all TWY’s east of RWY 18L-36R for A380 is prohibited, except TWY E4 and N1.
TWY curve N1 requires judgemental oversteering.
Aircraft stands
The only aircraft stand at AMS, suitable for connected handling of A380 is G09
Stands P14 and P16 on the Central De-icing Facility (CDF) at AMS are suitable for
remote A380 de-icing based on taxi-in / taxi-out principle. Additionally stands P10 and P12
on the CDF are suitable for remote parking.
Remote stand J81 is suitable for remote handling of A380.
Other airport facilities
Stands G09 is equipped with Double Apron Drive bridge, supporting upper deck
connection to door U1L.
Standard connections methods for A380 bridge connection are M1L + U1L or M1L +
M2L. Simultaneous connection of doors M2L and U1L is not possible.
Stand G09 is equipped with four Fixed Power Units (FPU 400Hz) – (extra) GPU power
should therefore not be necessary to support full A380 ground operations.
The Engine Run-up area is not accessible by A380 due to wingspan restriction. In case of
engine test run, A380 will be assigned a remote location on RWY 27.
