Ash clouds 2010

Post by worldliner »

asdonderdag

Flown in: Airbus A318, A319, A320, A321; Boeing 737-300, 737-400, 737-500, 737-700, 737-800, 757-200, 757-300, 767-200ER, 767-300, 767-300ER, 767-400ER; McDonnell Douglas DC-10, MD-82; Fokker 70; Canadair CRJ-100ER; Embraer E-190, E-195; DHC-8; ATR-42

Will soon fly: Airbus A340-600

Zit nu in LHR, verwachting is hier dat na 1200 local ook de London area dicht gaat... Dus wellicht uitwijkers richting AMS.

Here is a map of the expected impact of the Volcano's ash.

Amsterdam Schiphol could be closed by the evening, if this persists.

Plus the situation in the UK, where most Northern airspace is closed - according to BBC:

If you wish to know why flights are halted when volcanic ash is in the air, please read below about the "Speedbird 9" incident of a BA B747-200 above Indonesia in 1982 and the KLM B747-400 incident in Alaska in 1989:

1. BA Flight 9 - B747-200

All London airports will be closed as from 11.30local UK-time.

If AMS manages to keep open it can expect some diversions, quite a few long-hauls still in the air en-route to LHR and LGW.

CDG is also preparing closure caused by the volcanic ash.

SPL now also on the edge of closing-down somewhere mid-afternoon.

EK001 A380 flight still expected at LHR despite closure of UK airspace at 11.00UK-time.

As said before on this forum diversion into AMS or BRU not likely as both airports are also face closure l ater today. CDG, FRA or ZRH more likely.

BA closed down their whole domestic schedule and currently trying to release as many European flights ex-LHR and ex-LGW as they can before both airport close until at least 18.00UK-time !!!

First UK bound long-hauls are already diverting into BRU, MUC and FRA.
