AIRVG is back!
After a full 6-year hiatus, the AIRVG air-show is coming back! At today's 294th session, the government accepted the sponsorship of this aviation event, which will take place in less than two months. Minister of Defense Ivan Anušić, in his explanation before members of the Government, announced the air show itself, as well as the change of venue:
"The city of Velika Gorica, in cooperation with the signatories of the Charter of Friendship, plans to hold the third AIRVG aero-meeting at Dr. Franjo Tuđman International Airport on May 11, 2024. The emphasis at the aero-meeting is on the modernization of Croatian civil and military aviation, especially in the form of the arrival of the Rafale multi-purpose fighter jet in Croatia and the Croatian Air Force, and it is expected that aero-clubs from Croatia and abroad will also present themselves at the air-show program. Since the Charter of Friendship of the city of Velika Gorica includes, among others, the Croatian Air Force, the International Airport, the Croatian Air Navigation Control and the Aviation Technical Center, and for the sake of publicity for calls for military pilots and aviation technicians, it is proposed to accept the sponsorship of the Government of the Republic of Croatia over holding this event where up to 50,000 visitors are expected. By accepting patronage, the Government does not assume financial obligations".
So, unlike the first and second AIRVG, held long ago in 2017 and 2018, which were held on the meadow in front of the ZHTC, this year's third edition of the Veliko Gorica aviation meeting will be held at Pleso Airport. There is no doubt that Dassault Rafale fighter jets, as well as UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters, will be presented to the public on this occasion. In addition to HRZ aircraft, the Ministry of the Interior will also present its aviation and flying opus, which is also expecting new Subaru Bell 412EPX helicopters soon.
Great interest in another AIRVG
Both editions of the AIRVG air-show, the only one of its kind in the Zagreb area, aroused great interest from the audience, but both were timed for the Ministry of Defense's acquisition of a new fighter plane. That is why, with the failure of the procurement of the F-16 Barak aircraft, this air-show also failed, unfortunately. In the meantime, many things happened, among others the most important thing - the acquisition of a new fighter plane, so the organizers decided to revive AIRVG. Since the arrival of the Rafale fighter jets is expected on April 25, there is no doubt that on Saturday, May 11, a huge crowd of aviation enthusiasts and the interested public will flock to Pleso and enjoy the renewed edition of AIRVG. Perhaps it will also be an opportunity to send the MiG-21 aircraft from the HRZ into history with dignity and gratitude for their decades of service.
