If I remember well, during the last years Turkey already shot down several syrian aircraft allegedly "violating" Turkish air space. And still if I remember well, all of them felt on the Syrian side of the border... Today once again : even the pilots, after parachuting, were over Syria... I understan...

There was also an offer to update the Hercules to SC-130, when the Herks are replaced by the A400. It could be a lot cheaper, since no new airframes have to be build. A rather poor quality picture (made through a durty window) of this F-5F, in a line-up, leading other ones (F-5Es and one more F), during a short stop there. What a surprise to watch a Dutch Navy NH-90 training in Creta for my 2nd day over there.
It looks like she came there with a Fregate which was anchored at Souda Bay Naval Station.
