LOG: East Coast March 2024 (mil)

Post by Oscar01 »

Hi,

Last month I did a bit of spotting on the east coast. As allways, drove quite a few miles, but that's easy overthere. In gerneral, the east coast is not as east as west is. Most places are not as easy to spot, and in general more often you end up being checked by local police or security forces. That was never a problem. Even the long talks with police, SF and OSI investigators at Langley in the end turned out to be a good conversation and I was allowed to continue and take pictures from the parking lot near the gate.

Here is my log, feel free to add comments, serials or questions if you have any....

After arriving Philly mid afternoon, I decided to check if I could see any A-10s. The plan was to get back here later, and as I never was here before, I wanted to see how it looked like. BIG surprise were the 8 MI A-10. On the 18th 6x MD and 6x MI deployed downrange. So the MIs were here already. Perfect spot to read is the local Post Office opposite of the ramps. The C-37B crossed at 5000ft.

What a huge base! Few spots from where you can see aircraft, but not realy good for pictures. The parking garage (top level) is the best spot, but here the frustrating part is that you can read loads of codes, and also partial serials, but to get them linked to eachother ;-)
Nice to see a few carriers in the harbour as well.....

Again another huge base! Winds were not good, so the were flying RW31R (as 31L was under construction). Take off pictures are ok, but you only have few seconds. They were flying quite good. I was here from 0900 till 1500.

For me one of the highlights on this trip was this base. A number of good spots where you can take pictures (or read), sun, all units at home, and loads of flying (hot-pit, so land and taking of again). Very friendly lady from Security Forces told me it was ok to stay there. You need a ladder (4 steps at least) to take pictures on the runway (spot 1 and 3). Take off from spot 4 was great.
That USMC chopper all of a sudden made a low approach.

Last day of my trip I spent 30min at AC. These ones were here for CAP duties. Non of the locals were seen (outside). That concluded my trip with 6500km, 700+ serials and 4000 pictures or so....

Like said, remarks are always welcome. As the log is a copy out of excel, I hope the format is still a bit ok.

Kind regards,
Oz

Hi Oz,

Nice log. The above must have been 85-0468. At least that is what the 24 FS bird was when stationed in TX. 86-0489 does not exist.
