NAS North Island KNZY 2024

Post by SBGrad »

Binocular report. Yesterday a squadron of 6xEA-18G came in. The time between the first bird and the last was too short to get out to the beach. Too back-lit to get anything off the tails.

Interestingly, they used the callsign FLASHBACK, which I've never heard before. That was the callsign of VAQ-34, however they were disestablished over 20 years ago.

I'm guessing VAQ-137 "NH".
CVN-71 is scheduled to depart this week.

Wednesday March 27
4xEA-18G Growlers fly in

Thursday 2x Growlers perform flyover of Petco Park downtown for the Opening Day of baseball season, return to NASNI.

Today (Friday) I find out the planes came from VAQ-129 Vikings. After the planess landed they drove the crews over the bridge to watch the game.

Nice log as always, thanks. Can you confirm 553 for 168772? 523 maybe?

169145 for 500 not 169195.

5 April

via binoculars
6xF-16 landing on 29
In the 1st flight of 4 jets:
-at least 2 had AZ flag fin flashes, tail codes and serials painted over
-one tail marked AZ 790
In the 2d group of 2 jets:
-one had special tail, hand of playing cards with large white letters that at the time looked like IPS. Upon googling, I think it was 21 FS.

via ADSB, F-5 761556, call sign Sniper, made a missed approach and then came around to land on 29. He went around to the right, over the town, the bay and downtown San Diego. Normally on a missed approach they'll go left over the ocean. We had low clouds and rain squalls at the time, couldn't have been fun trying to land.

ADDITION

USAF Lockheed C-5
85-0010

5xF-35C // not sure of squadron, either VFA125 or maybe VMFA-314

Rudy 23, 34 and Scorch 52
