Best place to spot for short final is at the large parking lot of the Oman Int'l Exhibition Center (u can find it on detailed maps of the city)
But always stay aware of the fact that police officers don't understand what you are doing, nor a word of english...
And be patient... not very much action at Muscat...

Note that the correct prefix must be A4O, Alpha, 4, Oscar iso Alpha, 4, Zerro...for sure you are not the last one who will make this 'mistake'

Thanks, I didn't know that... all the 41 Omani aircraft in my list are with A40(zero), never noticed the Oscar...
But how did you know? The difference is not easy to notice...

Don't worry Rembrandt. I think it must be one of the most common mistakes made by spotters.

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aircraft_registration:
"In accordance with the Convention on International Civil Aviation all aircraft must be registered with a national authority (such as the FAA or Transport Canada), and furthermore, they must carry proof of this registration in the form of a legal document called a Certificate of Registration at all times when in operation."
Kind regards,

Kees

Have a look at our Database, Soviet Transport part.
Go to c/n and use *43449468* and see:

Back to search results
Full type Reg / serial / code Operator / Colour Scheme First reported Remarks
Il-76MD CCCP-76578 Soviet AF/AFL c/s mfd 28jan84 line # 37-07; rgd 02apr87; f/n in (former) East Germany 21mar91; l/n SSB 23mar93
Il-76MD UR-76578 Atlant Krv 05jul96 based at Artsyz mar97; offered for sale by Ukrainian privatisation agency 18apr01 with t/t 2,135 hours
Il-76TD RA-76578 Ilavia rgd 04jun02 lsf Novares OAO 27may02/27may03; f/n SVO 20apr03; l/n DME 28aug03; canx 23jan04 as sold to Cambodia
Il-76TD RDPL-34146 Imtrec Aviation DMK 18feb04 c/n confirmed; l/n FJR 17oct09, as such; operator now given as Lao Capricorn Air from FJR ground log 01nov08

So the YA-KAN looks like an update for the above mentioned c/n...

May I ask where you eventually found it?
And what your standard way of searching such a registration is?
I only know of Google, Airframes, Scramble and Airport-Data, but I'd like to learn more.

Thanks everyone for all the info!
Nice movement for my database!

Before a moderator decides it is too off-topic and moves it

Airfleets.net has info on most western types
Airlinerlist.com has spreadsheets on about every type you can think of
laasdata.com has info on bizjets and bizprops

and finally airliners.net, search on the registration and 99% of the pictures also show the c/n

Seen at MCT on december 1st, 21:30-00:00:

A4O-BE B737-81M Oman Air
A4O-BF B737-8FZ Oman Air, inside hangar
A4O-BJ B737-81M Oman Air
A4O-BO B737-81M Oman Air
A4O-BS B737-8Q8 Oman Air
A4O-DC A330-243 Oman Air
A6-EII A320-232 Etihad
A7-ACK A330-202 Qatar Airways
D-AIGC A340-311 Lufthansa, flew MCT-AUH-FRA on this one
HB-JHC A330-343E Swiss Intl
UP-I7610 Il-76TD SkyLink Arabia (c/n 0053460832, not confirmed, according Scramble ST database)
VT-JBJ B737-85R Jet Airways
VT-SCQ A319-112 Air India
ZS-OUG Beech 1900D Untitled (a/w)

Nice to see that Oman Air, with its new long-haul destinations, has a somewhat more diversed fleet.
The new c/s looks real nice, especially on the new A330's!
Very cool detail of this log: The UP-I7610 was parked next to our A340, and while we were boarding by bus and stairs, it began taxiing to the runway, and eventually took off right before our eyes (and ears!)... man, that sound!

One other thing: Can anyone confirm the existence of an Oman Air ATR A4O-JT ???
In a glimpse, while driving to the airport of Muscat, I think I read that reg.
But I can't find proof of it being added to their fleet...

Thanks

Regards,
Rembrandt
