Dalian (ZYTL/DLC) - 2008

Post by Polleke_NL »

Dalian (China) Nov.21.,2008

Today travelled from Dalian to Shanghai and while at Dalian, took a look from the terminal and aircraft towards both military platforms.

On the South-Western platform, a total of 25 x (J)J-7's were parked on the flightline, most in bare metal, 9 of them with open canopy, 3 of them totally wrapped in fabric. (decoys/mock-ups??)

On the North-Western platform 5 x (J)J-7's were parked of which 1 appeared to be instructional, 1 x J-6 stood as what appeared to be instructional, 1 x SU30 also stood as instructional, 1 x SU30 was towed from one hangar to another and 2 x SU30 were parked under sun-shelters.
No flying activities noticed but opened canopies suggested this was due to happen that afternoon. As confirmed by a local, Dalian is apparently currently being used as instructional base and flying activities are said to be limited to early afternoon.

"Enjoyed" very poor light conditions due to which hardly any numbers could be noted (perhaps from my pictures when I return home) and due to which identification between J-7 and JJ-7 was close to impossible.

Dalian houses a nice overhaul facility that used to work on J6 a few years ago and now handles J7 and Su-30.

In addition to the based 30th Div J7Es a few months ago also 21st Div J7Es were noted on the operational line, serials (codes) 40x1x and 31x2x ranges, see Scramble 354.

Looking forward to the pictures!
