Mid air collision Duxford

Post by Antheii »

During the Flying Legends Air Show P-51D N351BD 'Big Beautiful Doll' collided with A-1D F-AZDP.

The A-1 managed to land, although missing part of the wing (see http://yfrog.com/klytbrj), but the Mustang crashed, luckely only after the pilot managed to bail out.

A shame. I saw here yesterday for the last time. She was nowadays D-FBBD.

The crashed P-51D wasn't N351BD, but D-FBBD (ex G-HAEC).

I also was fortunate to see this aircraft fly yesterday.

Sad for the airframe loss, but glad the pilot is OK

I was last saturday there with my dad and the show was perfect.
During that day they told that the owner had sold this P-51 last month.
The new owner gave permission to the old owner to fly his aircraft at the show.
Sad news that this P-51 will never fly again, but glaid to hear the pilot survived.

Here two pictures, taken 24 hours before the crash.
