Navy copter crash damage expected to top $1 million

Post by Rockville »

Norfolk-
The crash of a Navy Reserve helicopter at Fort Pickett on Tuesday night is being ruled a Class A mishap, with damage expected to top $1 million, the Navy said Wednesday.
The six people on board suffered minor injuries and were not hospitalized.
The crash occurred at 9:45 p.m., as the helicopter was conducting routine unit-level training, said Mike Maus, a spokesman for Naval Air Force Atlantic.
The helicopter, a HH-60H Seahawk, is assigned to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 84, based at Norfolk Naval Station’s Chambers Field.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, Maus said. The Navy did not identify the victims, which included two pilots and four crewmen.
The squadron, which is part of Helicopter Sea Combat Wing Atlantic, has traditionally supported special warfare operations.
