Old Dutch logo trains

Post by Rene Klok »

Going through my old slides for scanning purposes I came across these two slides that I had completely forgotten about. About 25 years ago the Dutch Railways painted two intercity trains in KLM and Martinair colours.
Both slides made in 1986.

Isn't there a trainspotterssite out there on the web? Maybe they might be interested. Especially the one with the MP train, as on the left side of that pic you can also see a bit of the KLM one.

BTW 1: the reason for applying these colours was the introduction of the railway via Schiphol.
BTW 2: in the beginning this material was called "de Boeing van NS" (NS' Boeing), because the position of the driver made it look like a 747. Unfortunately years after this the public elected the name "Koploper", as you could change trains without leaving it, an installation now no longer functioning, due to problems experienced during combining trains and disconnecting them.

Thanks for that info. I couldn't remember anymore why these trains were painted that way.

De pics you have made are from the first outfit. A few months after the introduction the NS decided to mark the front of the train with a huge dot, due to visibility reasons. Martinair one was red, KLM dark blue.
With this dot they were in service for a couple of years, then they changed to Aegon-livery.

So, unique pics without the dot!

@Arjan. I didn't know that about the dot. Thanks for the info.
@Thijs. You could be right about Amersfoort. I can't remember. Show me any aircraft pic from my 6000 slides collection and I'll tell you where it was made. However with the <10 train slides I have, my memory eludes me.

trains went running from Amsterdam CS to Schiphol in 1986 .
"Boeings" or whatever were not really nicknames for them.
first picture looks like Amersfoort (with old van Gend & Loos shed in background),
second one is in Zwolle.
