Engine cowlings on Fokker 60MPA

Post by Stephan Lodewijks »

I noticed a slight difference today between the aft of the engine cowlings of Fokker 60MPA U-03. The number one engine cowling has a overall-black (almost radome-like) appearance, while number two is a bit longer and more slender. Is this part of the MPA-modification? I only noticed it when the aircraft flew directly overhead at about 3.000ft. So I looked at my departure pics, and it is clearly visible:

I'm just curious, does anyone know more? Does the number one cowling maybe house (a) sensor(s)?

Thanks in advance.

Engine #2 also houses the APU-unit (as in Auxilary Power Unit; small engine providing electricety and warm/cool air on the ground when no external equipment is on site) and the exhaust is seen in the aft, metalic part.
