UK newspapers vision on global warming: where do they stand?

Post by bramos »

Good evening,

Maybe the most aviation unrelated topic of the year, but as I'm busy writing some school column I find myself stuck. The assignment is to write an article or column on climate change, and to include a so-called rationale with your article, in which you explain exactly what you've done. Including mentioning in which newspaper your article (or opinion column, in my case) would fit. And that's the problem. Due to climategate, the IPCC-hacking scandal, most newspaper websites are flooded with articles on these giant blunders, making it very hard (if not impossible) to track which side of the battle (IPCC versus climate sceptics) they supported / felt compassion with.

As this forum is partially English, I've put my hopes up that there are also some people from the UK (or people that have been reading UK newspapers for quite some time) that read and write along. Any help is highly appreciated, but I'm mostly interested in the views of the bigger newspapers (Daily Telegraph, Times, Guardian, etc).

Thanks a lot in advance,
Bram(os)

Why don't you check the editorials of those papers yourself? Maybe than you will find what they have to say about the International Pack of Climate Crooks. 8)

I did try to do so, but the archives only stretch a couple of days (or I'm looking in the wrong place). Therefore, I was hoping people who read these papers a little longer could help me out. I don't need an extensive review or analysis, but a quick hint (i.e.: The Guardian thinks that humans play only a minor role, etc) would be great :D!

(However, Hans, your opinion is very clear :P.)

Taking a look at the environment/green pages on the newspapers' websites will give you clues as to how they approach climate change. There's lots of discussions on the TimesOnline, Guardian websites about the climategate, whereas the Sun opens with a cow with a methane collecting device on its back. They all agree on climate change, their approach is very much in line with the general look and feel of the papers.

That's because I just happen to be reading a book on the subject you are interested in. An outrage, the way the scientific process has been treated by the IPCC. Some of those guys propable even belong in jail.....
