It is some sort of tradition for the fightersquadrons to be the first to fly in the new year. I guess Leeuwarden will be open as well.

Indeed, i believe its always a race wich airbase is the first one to do a tour arround holland, making a touch and go at as many airports as is posible.

A couple of years ago the two squadrons at LWD raced to the runway to be the first when the towercontroller told them that the SAR heli had flown that night at a quarter past twelve...

I wish I could have seen the faces of the pilots!
