Deactivating 81st Fighter Squadron Spangdahlem (Germany)

Post by gortje »

Hi everybody,

I've read the follow information on: http://warthognews.blogspot.nl/

A flight of four A-10Cs from the 81st Fighter Squadron, 52nd Fighter Wing (USAFE), Spangdahlem AB, Germany, arrived at Lajes Field, Azores, for stopover enroute Continental United States (CONUS) on October 10, 2012. The fourship included A-10Cs 81-0956, 80-0275, 81-0965 and 81-0976 (Callsigns Huron96-99). They were supported by tanker KC-135 62-3543 (Callsign CAFE46).

At Lajes, Warthog News contributor André Inacio from Portugal had the opportunity to catch all four "Hogs" during arrival. And: André shared 6 photos with Warthog News.

Today, Colin Wells from the United Kingdom posted the following comment: While I was at the airshow at Moody AFB on 27th October I noted all 4 of these A-10's in the shelters with the based aircraft. All were still wearing the SP tail code but I wonder whether they have been transferred to the 23rd Wg.

Note: That seems like these four Spang "Hogs" left Germany in a first step to deactivate the 81st Fighter Squadron next year as announced by USAF. Anybody who can/will provide pictures of these aircraft now at Moody AFB? Any Moody personnel who can/will confirm their scheduled integration in the 23rd Fighter Group?

Regards,
