India and Russia to build new transport aircraft

Post by ehusmann »

From Defencetalk: India and Russia have signed an agreement to develop a new transport aircraft. It should be a twin engine jet transport with a 15t-20t payload capability.

The coming years seem to be exciting times in military transport land. The A400M coming on line, the Japanese C-2 has started flying, the Brazilian KC-390 is looking at a real future and now this new model. I wonder when a new American plane will be announced to replace the mighty Hercules....

The US have their replacement already. The J model isn't that old that it needs replacement, and it already replaced some older examples of the C-130.

I doubt that. Yes it is there now, but I wonder if the J model will replace all older Hercs and I wonder if the J model will remain competitive against these new planes. If not, I see Lockheed come up with something new within the next decade.
