US plane 'forced to land in Iran'

Post by Rockville »

A US warplane has been forced to land in Iran after violating Iranian territory, the Iranian semi-official Fars news agency has reported.
The Falcon aircraft entered Iranian airspace from Turkey, flying at low altitude to avoid radar, Fars said.
The agency said it was detected by Iranian fighter jets, which forced it to land at an undisclosed airport.
Passengers included five senior American generals and three civilians, the report said.
The agency said the group was interrogated at the airport and then allowed to leave after it was realised they had entered unintentionally.

More details to follow.

Iran 'forces down foreign plane'

A foreign aircraft has been forced to land in Iran after violating Iranian airspace, Iranian news agencies say.
The semi-official Fars said the plane was a US Falcon, while state TV said it belonged to a European aid agency.
The Pentagon denied any of its planes had been involved in such an incident, saying none had landed in Iran.
The Iranian reports said those on board were freed a day later, but did not say when the event took place. It is not clear what happened to the aircraft.
The Fars report said the aircraft entered Iranian airspace from Turkey, flying at low altitude to avoid radar.
It said the plane was intercepted by Iranian fighter jets and forced to land at an unspecified airport.
The reports said its occupants were released after it became clear they had entered the country unintentionally.

from the CNN-report:

"The Falcon is a European-made business jet THAT RESEMBLES A LEARJET"

:rofl2:

... in the same sense that A B747 resembles an A340, probably
