Rafale and FREMM frigates: Egypt and France close to agreement

16/01/2015

The two countries are close to an agreement for the sale of twenty and two Rafale FREMM multi-mission frigates.
Contracts estimated at between 5 and 6 billion.
on the same subject

It would be very good news early this year for manufacturers of French armament.

France and Egypt are close to an agreement for the sale of two frigates FREMM multimission and twenty Rafale combat aircraft to the Egyptian army armed with MBDA missiles.

According to reliable sources, a delegation of the Treasury visited Cairo early in the week to assess the security of Egypt in the event of an agreement with French manufacturers.

And obviously the Egyptians have responded positively to the questions and especially the expectations of the French delegation.
Especially that France has asked his side to Coface to make a new effort to facilitate the contract.

In the wake of the visit of the Treasury, the CEO of Dassault Aviation, Eric Trappier, DCNS, Hervé Guillou, and missile MBDA, Antoine Bouvier, were in Cairo on Thursday to advance an agreement with Egypt or finalize negotiations , according to several sources.

Contracts could be signed soon if everything went according.
Some observers sought a signature by the end of the month while others more cautious in a few weeks.

After the departure of December 19 of an Egyptian delegation of high level present in Paris for ten days, yet it was a very mixed feelings about the outcome of this visit.

Some industrial questioned even on a bad remake of Morocco when France had lost a contract captive Rafale.

For the Egyptian delegation left without a formal agreement on the funding it was nevertheless picked in Paris 23 Rafale and two multimission FREMM frigates.

Either a transaction valued between 5 and 6 billion. Arriving in France, the delegation had nevertheless aim to conclude.
That was certainly the wish of the Egyptian president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who had come on official visit to Paris in late November.

gives the impression this French newspaper is following the "Rafales-to-Egypt"-saga quite closely.

Jejeje.... how many times I have read this... possible Rafale jets for Libya, for Kuwait, for Qatar, for Brazil, for....
Even India is not 100% sure and signed on paper. Time will tell how many real buyers of the Rafale will be seen at Bordeaux.

The terms "Possibly" and "developments" were put in one sentence for a reason.

It seems the Morocco-deal
floundered and in the end foundered
because of "financial insecurities" :?:

According to the french newspaper Les echos, the Egyptian delegation which left France last Friday reached an agreement for an order of 24 Rafale and 1 FREMM Frigate.

Egypt will have to pay 15% of the total cost to validate the purchase. 50% of the remaining cost will be covered by a loan garantee by the Franch state.

Egypt would like the frigate and a first batch of jets to be delivered before august in order to display them during the inauguration of the new Suez Canal.

Continuous Egypt agreement between Paris and Cairo

The 06/02 at 19:32, updated at 19:42

Cairo, which dropped its claims,
wants to buy 24 Rafale and a frigate 5 billion,
including armaments.

Bercy has agreed to guarantee through Coface, half the sum out payment.
Credit Agricole will probably be leading the way the banking pool.

Even if the caution is, the Rafale is approaching more and more of the Pyramids.

Paris and Cairo have reached an agreement in principle to finance contracts covering 24 copies of Dassault combat aircraft and FREMM multi-mission frigate built by DCNS, according to our information.

In all, the Egyptians will cost 5 billion euros,
a very large sum given the very tight finances.

But Paris has agreed to guarantee a large portion of the bank loan that will resolve it.

When she arrived on Monday, the Egyptian delegation camped on its positions: 24 Rafale, two frigates and a very large batch of missiles.

In addition to the bill for these purchases - about 7.6 billion - is funding blocking. Cairo asked the French to secure almost 90% of the sum off payment.
Unable seen Bercy.

Cairo revises its ambitions downwards

The lines seem to have moved from Tuesday .

Aware of their limited resources, the Egyptians finally lowered their claims.

The number of Rafale should remain the same, enough to arm two squadrons, but there will be more than a frigate.

Above all, the number of missiles has been greatly reduced, allowing ultimately lowering the starting 2.6 billion bill.

Most importantly, finally, the Egyptians agreed to Paris via the Coface , no guarantee "that" half of the 5 billion stake, excluding deposit (usually 15% on large arms contracts).
Clearly, Cairo will have to put more of his pocket.

The outcome is close, but we must also overcome some obstacles before concluding.
An agreement in principle on the guarantee of the French State in pocket, Cairo will now be able to negotiate a loan from a pool of banks.
Crédit Agricole, one major French bank still present in Egypt, will probably be the file header it ensured the "Echos", along with BNP Paribas and Société Générale.

The trio will probably try to dilute its risk by using other financial institutions, including Arab.

The drafting of the financing agreement should take two or three weeks course no insurmountable obstacle appears.

This done, the payment of the deposit can then intervene.

It was at that time, ie when Dassault will hit his first check, and only at that point that the Rafale can claim its first reference for export.

A little patience ...
