Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport closed

Post by Le Addeur noir »

On Tuesday 25 November a large number of protesters from the Peoples Alliance for Democracy(PAD) moved into and forced the closure of the New Bangkok International Airport(NBIA).

This action has resulted in the airport being closed to all departures from 21.00 local time on the 25th(14.00 UTC).This closure will remain in force until at least 18.00 hours local time on the 27th(11.00 UTC).

Preceeding this action the PAD had blockaded the other Bangkok airport,Don Muang, resulting in violence including a gun battle on the approach road to Don Muang.

Other protests in Bangkok involving the PAD over the last week have resulted in grenade attacks and 2 people losing their lives.

Not a safe time to be spotting in Bangkok.

Luckily the pool at the Marriott Resort & Spa is a good alternative while I'm stuck here! 8)
