SAS loses defense contract worth one billion to Norwegian

Norwegian has entered into a four-year contract with the Norwegian Defense Forces worth NOK 1 billion, the company writes in a press release.

Since 2019, SAS has had the contract with the defense after taking over from Norwegian. Now the defense changes again.

– SAS has been a proud supplier of transport services to the Norwegian defense for many years.

We are now taking part in the outcome
and hope that they have secured a good supplier of air travel in the future as well,
says Knut Morten Johansen, head of information at SAS, to E24.

The Norwegian Armed Forces replaces SAS as subcontractor,
which has had the contract since 2019,
and chooses Norwegian instead.

The contract is for four years and starts in 2024,
covers an estimated 250,000 trips each year and has an estimated limit of NOK 1 billion.

The agreement with the Armed Forces is considered one of the most lucrative in aviation
and it involves a large volume of flights in Norway and the Nordics
for employees within the Armed Forces, the Ministry of Defense and defense equipment.
This is reported by Dagens Näringsliv.

– We look forward to establishing Norwegian as a supplier of aviation to the defense sector in Norway and the Nordics.

A route offer is drawn up that meets our needs at key destinations.
Norwegian must contribute to meeting the needs of air travel in a good way,
says Lars-Christian Aamodt, Major General and Head of the Norwegian Defense Logistics Organization, in a press release.

The announcement of Norwegian’s contract
comes just one month after Norwegian flagged the purchase of Widerøe. :|
Norwegian’s purchase of SAS’s old subsidiary made big headlines.
