Qatar Airways uses two Airbus A380 as spare parts donors
The golf airline is again using eight superjumbos, two of which are used as spare parts donors.
However, the Airbus A380 will only make a brief second guest appearance with Qatar Airways.
Chief Akbar Al Baker makes that clear.

The Airbus A380 is currently making an unexpected comeback.
More and more airlines are bringing him back.
So does Qatar Airways.
Seven of the golf airline's ten superjumbos are currently back in service,
with another available as a reserve
to be used in the event of failures.
According to Akbar Al Baker, the other two superjumbos are used as spare parts donors.
However, the head of Qatar Airways is anything but a fan of the double-decker that travelers love so much.
"It's different for airline bosses," he said last week on the sidelines of the ITB tourism fair.
2026 will be the end
And that's why the return of superjumbos to Qatar Airways won't last long.
"In three years all A380s will have left our fleet," says Al Baker.
In the past, this was simply not possible due to the pressure on global supply chains.
Originally , the Gulf airline planned to decommission its A380 from 2024 .
Qatar Airways is using what Al Baker calls “uneconomical” because the airline has grounded most of its Airbus A350s.
The reason was a legal dispute with Airbus over problems with the coating.
This has now been settled and Airbus is once again preparing deliveries to the golf airline.
All A380s gone in three years
However, there are also delays in the launch of another new long-haul jet.
The Boeing 777X delays are also forcing Qatar to continue using the superjumbo for a while.
But "only for as long as absolutely necessary," says Al Baker.
