Aeronextlife to start activities at Twenthe Airport

Post by Niek »

Newspaper Tubantia just announced that the company Aeronextlife will start recycling aircraft at Twenthe.
This means that there will still be aviation related activities at the former airbase and that the runway will remain open.
Unfortunately it will see more arrivals than departures....

Hello,

What's the status of the runway. I mean, for many years now there wasn't any activity at Twente Airport:

- Can they just reopen the airport or does the runway/taxi-ways etc needs massive maintenance?
- Who will pay the bill?
- ATC/Tower?

.....

The runway and taxiways are still in very good condition. The runway was completely renewed 2 years before the closure was announced. Every month the runway lights and approach lights are tested to ensure everything is still ok. Next to that, the airclub is still operating out of Twenthe (ok, their landing weight is slightly less than that of a B747).
When work was done to reopen Twenthe as a commercial airport, new approach procedures etc were already established.
The old tower cannot be used anymore. It is now private property which is no longer part of the airfield, so arrangements need to be made for that.

ENSCHEDE - The company Aero Next Life Twente BV is only five months old and currently exists only on paper. It was established on March 6 of this year, as parent company Aero Next Life Holding BV. There is no staff, no money (according to the trade there is a landfill in either instance and issued capital of 10 euro) or an industrial space.

Recycle Company for aircraft at Twente
Promoter for the company is the Belgian Frederic Chaillet, which was originally an interior designer. He has two people attracted to pull the Twente establishment of the ground: Wilco van Hoorn, who works for grant consulting firm Pecunia non olet (PNO) and Toon Wassenberg, sustainability expert and councilor in Antwerp. Both men have no experience in aircraft disassembly industry and employed through private limited companies.

Reliable
"That there is nothing, say nothing," says Deputy Eddy van Hijum. "That is always the case with start-ups. But their antecedents are good and they work with partners who are of good repute." From Hijum not allowed to say who the partners are.

Seriously
Alderman Patrick Welman of Enschede same opinion. "They have applied for a license with us and we go in that procedure, of course, look closely at financial risk and security for the community. But from the conversations I have had up to now I have a good impression, they are certainly serious entrepreneurs."

Permits
According to Van Horn brass tacks, there can only be beaten if any permits are granted. Only then concretely grants can be requested leases signed for hangars at the airport, and contracts with customers. "Before that, of course, that makes no sense." According to the province, the company can start on January 1, 2016 with the pioneering stage: it would be the licensing round.

Is it allowed to land on a closed airfield? In 2010 a Lockheed T33 landed at the closed airport and the pilot was arrested. http://www.nu.nl/binnenland/2213959/bri ... wente.html

It all depends on the reason behind the landing. If it is just for fun, I don't think people will welcome you with open arms. If it is the only option to avoid a crash, ofcourse! I would use every runway look a like piece of concrete. Who gives a f*ck if you have saved lives why doing so.
