Type of spotter: Everything I consider to be a plane

South America (BRA/ARG/URU/PAR) 2012 CIV

Post by SGB »

In October and November I had a 3,5 week vacation in South America, spend most of the time in Argentina, with 2 transits in Brasil, a quick hop to Uruguay, and ended in Paraguay. Spend most of my time doing the normal people tourist attractions, of which there are plenty, but couldn't resist to do some plane spotting off course. Below the civilians, will be making a seperate report with the military aircraft. Wrote down only the new ones for me.

Couple of short and 1 longer visit. Spotting outside is perfect, you can walk along the complete runway, and nothing stays hidden with some perfect photo possibilities. There is a foodcourt inside the terminal, with limited views, the terminal itself is very busy, as are the roads leading to the airport. Airside at international departures it is very cramped, with limited views, which becomes really anoying when your flight to MVD is delayed for over 2 hours, with very limited information. Main users are LAN Argentina A319's (all but 1), Austral ERJ190 (all but 1) and Aerolineas with the 737-700 and -800, and I left those out.

All seen from the viewing deck of the terminal building. Off course all Pluna aircraft are stored, (although some a lot longer as the CRJ's), there where 3 more CRJ's but they couldn't be read of. After the demise of Pluna not much is happening at MVD, just a limited number a daily flights, and where are the bizzers, are they all at Punta del Este?

All seen at departure to ASU, in the middle of the night. Made a short recon through the terminals, but as I should have known, nothing was visible, and in the dark with all my lugage and didn't venture to far. Airside was better, there was not much traffic at 1 AM, but through the windows some could be read of, and one of the runways was visible

Little of no information was available on the internet, but in the end it worked out fine. With a very old rambling bus from downtown to the airport and after a short stop in the terminal made my way past the hangars and platforms, by foot. Tried to keep a low profile, as I didn't have a clue how to explain what I was doing with my limited Spanish, and planespotting doesn't seem to be very well known in Paraguay, besides this is is a operational military base. For these reasons I didn't take my camera, also becaue it became rapidly 35 degrees and very dusty. But by just walking I was able to read most of the aircraft, some with a little help of the internet. After the terminals first the civil hangars and platforms, then the military platform, past the headquarters of the South American Football Association and then the final stop at an abonded railway track, which gave a great view over the airport, especially the airbase. Most aircraft could be read, but at least 1 Citation and 1 Ce208 remained unknown. Also a lot of smaller G.A. aircraft, which are of no interest to me. By coincedence this was the day of the inaugural AA 757 service to MIA.

Had the whole day after arrival from ASU and before my flight to AMS. Spotting from the terminal is good, especially at the tip of Terminal 2 you have a good view over both runways and all arriving and departing traffic. Traffic is dominated by Gol (737-700 and -800) en off course TAM (A319/A320/A321/A330/B773, only missed the 767), left those out,
