Rio de Janeiro-Santos Dumont (SDU/SBRJ) - 2011

Post by T7 »

Small airport with maximum operations for A319/B737-800's. Landing and take off is both spectacular and nice airport for some photo's. My ride (GOL 737-800 PR-GTC) made a very nice 270 degrees low turn in over the bay and bridge for runway 20L.

Seen after landing here, 1st May 1900lt:
PT-TMA A319 TAM
PR-AZF ERJ190 Azul
PR-AZH ERJ190 Azul

Stayed at the Ibis-hotel which is only 100m from the airport. No views from the hotel (maybe from nearby Novotel). At the back of the hotel is a footbridge crossing the road. From the top of it all bizjets at the FBO's can be read. When going further on to the airport, there is a huge viewing area in the middle of the arrival hall with large windows and seats. From here part of the gates and most of the parked bizjets in the field can be seen.

Seen at 3rd May 0800lt:
PR-GTZ 737-800 GOL
PR-WJP 737-300 Webjet
PR-PSR ERJ145 Passaredo

Plus the following bizjets:

PR-OEC BE400
PR-OUR CE560

Thanks for posting these logs from Brazil, very interesting to see the traffic there.
I am just wondering about the number of airliners here. Are these just hit and run visits? Seems very low, 3 or 4 per day.

Hi Erwin,

Santos Dumont were all hit and runs..GOL/TAM have most flights. They both do a Ponte Aerea which means a flight every 30min between Congonhas and Santos Dumont.
Congonhas is pretty busy but loads of GOL and TAM. They really dominate here. Bizjets make it very nice here..
Guarulhos is the place to see TAM A321/A330/A340/B777's plus a bunch of GOL 737's. Of course the international flights make it a nice place to spot.
