México City-Licenciado Benito Juarez Int'l (MMMX/MEX) - 2009

Post by JS50557 »

Hello all,

within a couple of weeks time I might go to Mexico City.
Does anyone have tips where to go, flight schedules etc rather then the information which can be found here on the Scramble Airfield Guide?
Thanks in advance,
Joop

Well, what do you really want to know, besides what is in the airfield guide? The airport itself is very, very simple. It has only two runways, and they almost always use the same direction (heading northeast). So for spotting (and photography) you need to get to the runway end which is clearly marked in the airfield guide. Some extra info, do look out here. Although I know of no problems with security, police or military, you can get robbed here. I have heard many stories of cameras being stolen and even some of kidnapping (although I doubt this one is true). In any case, do not use big photobags or suitcases, if possible carry your camera in a plastic bag or normal backpack. And put it away once used.
Another option is to get yourself a room in the airport hotel, which is on the opposite side of the street. Just cross the first footbridge. The rooms on the 3rd and 4th floor are perfect, with windows that can open. The more expensive hotel next to it has windows that cannot be opened.
Flying is all day, until about 23.00, with especially the Mexican carriers flying all the time. Unless you want to catch some special foreign airline, there is no need for a specific time to be there.

Hope this helps,
Erwin

Following hotel is perfect for spotting....

Just read the lastest (current) version of the airfield guide, and I am very dissapointed that the spots at the treshold are no longer usefull.
I have spend some great times there !
Thinking about that, its been 6 years since my last visit to MMMX.
