Izmir 4-5 June - 100 years TuAF - Wrecks and Relics

Post by Tim Jones »

Hi Kostas, I did suspect that may be the case!

Can anybody help with the location of an F-4 at Sivrihisar? Aparently it's on display on a main road through/near town and next to a single engine breguet?

Cheers,

Tim.

Talking about Wrecks and Relics....

I found some W&R in Izmir at the following coordinates.

N38°24'36.90" E27°02'28.95" - 55-4952 T-33A & 62-12316 F-104G
N38°24'08.68" E27°04'20.38" - 65-8347 F-104G
N38°18'33.60" E27°07'47.67" - 67-14897 F-5A & 69-7156 RF-5A & 104786 CF-104
N38°30'47.00" E27°01'33.31" - Three gateguards at Izmir-Cigli
At military part of Adnan-Menderes - 61-2620 F-104G

There should also be a F-100D (54-2202) preserved in Izmir. Any one for the exact location?

Are there more W&R aircraft in Izmir or the direct neighborhood?

Best regards Rob.

The F-100 used to be in the military area at N38.47012, E27.22772 (up the hill, a little to the north)
and easy visible from the main road to the right.
However it was not seen after 2008 and it is also not on the GE image from 2010.

- The T-33 is parked inside the fences of Cigli Airbase, you will probably see it as you enter the base.
- I can't see the F-104 on Google Earth, but I see a T-33 at this coodinate. Also both inside Cigli Airbase.
- The DC-3/C-47 is located inside the fences of Gaziemir Airbase.
- This F-104 is gone, and not for respray. It is now located somewhere else, together with two F-5s. See my previous post.
- This is indeed the F-104 inside the fence of Adnan Menderes. It can be seen from the air when arriving here. I don't know whether it can be seen from outside.

Hope this makes it al more clear.

Best regards Rob.

With the TUAF celebration this year no doubt there will be a lot of spotters heading that way?

Does anybody have any new locations not included in EMOOS?

Thanks in advance,

Tim.

We're travelling to Izmir via Istanbul  .

Can anyone tell me if the F-104 & Do.28 shown on GE at the University of Istanbul are viewable locally and the same question please concerning the F-104 at the Marmara Universitesi Goztepe Kampus.

From GE I can't determine whether the facilities are 'gated' or accessible to all.

Many thanks

Hi,

The F-104 and Do.28 are not vissible from the outside. I went there last november, and at the entrance the cab driver asked I've we can go to the 2 planes and that was allowed.

Arie,
Many thanks for that. :D The University is just a little off route, so knowing it's worth the diversion makes the planning that much easier.

The T-33A, which used to be here together with this Starfighter, in the park along the shoreline appears to have gone. Only 3 pillars remain on her old position. The F-104G is still present.
Parking at this part is 4,5TL.

Furthermore I was unable to locate the DC-3 at Gaziemir, but managed to see two F-5's there... a grey and a camo one. Any help with their ID's?

Cheers!

On departure from Izmir yesterday morning we overflew Gaziemir and could see two F-4s, two F-5s, one UH-1 and a C-160. Some of our group also saw the DC-3 but sadly not me.

The previous day I read the C-160 off as 028 but confirmation would be appreciated as our activities were cut short when a van load of police arrived.

One of the phantoms at Gaziemir had a white color scheme.

The Phantom at the technical school with special yellow/gold markings, we read as 66-0370.
The grey one next to it as "86-2007" . The F-5A (camo) we read as 21193.

A historical note: F-4E 66-0370 used to be a bird belonging to 57FIS (Keflavik). As such, it was at the 1985 RIAT at Fairford.
