REQ: Montijo preserved Alpha Jet

Post by Shirley »

Hi all,

Was able to visit Montijo air base last week. Came across an Alpha Jet on base, but unfortunately was not able (allowed) to get close to it.
It was in a fenced off area near the lookout point on the West side of the base. Looking at Google Earth, they used to have a G-91 there, but it was most definitely an Alpha Jet (38°42'35.97"N - 9° 2'39.05"W).
I can't find any information about an Alpha Jet at this location (or Montijo), so I guess this has been swapped with the G-91.

Any help would be great!

Hi,

Is this confirmed? 15201 was preserved on base at Beja only in the summer of 2022.

Many thanks

No idea about which Alpha Jet it is, but 15201 would be surprising. That one has been preserved at Beja for a few years already.
Besides, the G.91 here (5447) was not preserved, but in use for ground instructions with CTSFA (Centro de Treino de Sobrevivência da Força Aérea - Center for survival training of the Air Force). That's also why most people were not allowed near it and why you probably weren't allowed near the new Alpha Jet either. G.91 was first reported missing in January.

On 17-04-2023 we saw Alpha Jet 15201 still preserved at Beja.
On 18-04-2023 we saw the Alpha Jet preserved at Montijo but unfortenately we could not make a picture from it and was impossible to read but it defenitely wasn't 15201!
