Honeymoon in Israel (MIL) UPDATED

Post by Sjoerd »

The Mrs. and I decided to spent our honeymoon somewhere warmer, but not too far away. Following some recommendations, we thought it was a good time to visit Israel for once. It was on both our bucket lists some time. Luckily the Mrs. allowed some spotting as well. A full day was spent at Hatzerim (also the museum, but that will follow later). The following is just a few images of many more, but these are the best of the bunch since the weather did not always play ball and some where taken from a rather large distance.

C-130H Karnaf parked at Sde Dov.
Image

S-70A Yanshuf of 124sqn flying along the coast line, near Tel Aviv/Sde Dov.
Image

F-16I Sufa of 107sq landing at Hatzerim. Caught me by surprise while trying to find a desent spot.
Image

F-16I Sufa landing at Hatzerim standing in between the two runways. The weather worsened around noon hence the poor quality, but I thought these might be of interest after all.
Image

Image

Hatzerim also houses the sole F-15I Ra'am squadron, no 69 sq.
Image

Image

Still flying strong are the TA-4H Ayit-M of 102 sq (13 different a/c noted).
Image

Taken from the museum, just for the atmosphere.
Image

At the very last moments of daylight, I caught this one of many T-6's. Also taken from the museum during the base leg turn. All IDF/AF Efroni's are also based here at the FTS.
Image

Something different, a distant view of the IDF/AF AMARG at Ovda. Lot's of A-4's, F-4's and Kfir's
Image

This US Army Black Hawk was taken at Sde Dov. It's part of the 1st SBMFO, that controls the Egyptian Sinaï desert.
Image

I hope you like them! :D

Thanks guys!

No problems at all, but keeping low profile in these kind of countries is always recommended and certainly don't hang out around the base fences. Furthermore, most of the time my wive was with me, which also helped not attracting too much attention.

Good thing you only showed the MIL photos of your honeymoon :-)

Nice pics! Really miss the hatzerim desert, picknicking with Starman and Bennie under a fighter filled sky.

Nice shots!

Looking at your F-15I photos, I see that the first one has an extra radar (or so) just behind the canopy? Second one doesnot seem to have this "bult" :P

Thanks guys for the great comments and congrats! I do have to correct myself on my last post I guess ! She is a real shining beauty, as some might already know. I really hit the jackpot with her and no marrital conditions where needed to allow me to enjoy my hobby.

@ Jaap, sorry, I don't do civil.

@ Oz, you're right. At Deci I also witnissed some differences in the F-16I Sufa. It probably is some kind of upgraded comms pack I was told.

On with the show. Some preserved a/c where noted as well in Beer Sheva, not far from Hatzerim AB.

It seems this Kfir has a fike ID. Can anyone offer the real one?
Image

The F-4 was pulled out of the storage at Hatzerim a few years ago. It now looks remarkebly good and is being kept preserved this way as true Israelly tradition goes.
Image

This 707 is a really strange bird. It has a Lavi nose att'd to it as a result of the test program, which was eventually cancelled 1987, making way for more F-16's and F-15's.
Image

That's all for now!

Some more photos from Hatzerim museum/storage can be added if anyone is interested in these?

Cheers,

Hi Sjoerd,

AFAIK this ''664'' preserved Kfir should be original 764...

Hope this helps,
