EHDL (Deelen) 07/10/2011 departure DHC

Post by Johan »

Hi guys,

This morning I visited Deelen to see the choppers departing to Gilze as exercise Falcon Autumn has ended.
The cougars were parked on the dispersals in the south east part of the base. I was lucky to have two sunny spells of about 1 minute each :? but rain and humidity also have advantages for photographers..

1. two grey brothers
Image

2. and a oldfashioned camouflaged one. this colours are way more attractive in my opinion
Image

3. starting up for departure
Image

4. wildcat waiting for departure in pooring rain
Image

5. and finally departure to the main grass
Image

6.
Image

7. departure of the redskins. I saw three Apaches leaving via taxipoint Charlie
Image

8. and a very low departure of this big boy. not a very high quality pic but note the vortex!
Image

Despite the weather I had fun this morning. Long time ago that I saw that many helo´s active together.

Grtz

Johan

@ all: thanks!
I was happy to shoot some Cougars, included a camouflaged one, while they're still flying around. My favorite helicopter within our airforce
Makes me feel a bit sad to realise these choppers will be gone in a few years.

I didn't realize you could get this close to the operations area in Deelen. I saw some descriptions of it in another topic, but this surprises me nevertheless! Nice! 8)

Nice report Johan!

Interesting to see these kind of pictures from Deelen. EHDL is currently providing a nice autumn background, that's for sure! :)

Stephan
the south east side is accesible by foot (about 20 minutes walk from the parking place next to the main entrance) walk untill you reach the base fence. follow the fence and you have a clear view on the nearby dispersals. The Chinooks were parked on the north side and as far as i know not visible from outside. The Apaches were visible from the road east of Deelen and used a small part of the taxitrack for depatures.

Nice piccies...
During normal ops, these dispersals are rarely used... I cought them a day earlier, packed and prepared for the night... :)
