Circumstances during the spottersday will not be easy. The fence is (too) close to the taxitrack making it hard to get descent shots without some part of somebody else in your picture, bringing a stepladder doesn't help either because there are 3 to 4 meters between the crowdline and the stepladderline. My estimate is that there were about a 1000 people yesterday so Monday will probably be more crowded with a maximum load of 1500. Shooting on the runway isn't easy either, especially for landingshots because of the high gras between taxi and runway furthermore the planes came strait in so no touch and go's or flybyes. Despite these challenging conditions there are still a lot of great photooppertunities. Here are some i would like to share.

Grtz,

Hans

Alex, if you want to know how much mm's used , first try to take a look at the exif info, before asking someone.

In this case I see Hans used his 500mm.

`

If you take a look at Google Maps Ba103 Cambrai you will see a flightline opposite the tower. The spotterarea starts east from this flightline and ends at the beginning of the eastern shelter area. The length is about 550 - 600 meters.

You are very close to the taxiway. A F-16 from the side is about 42 mm analog.

Hope this helps.

Grtz,

Edward.

Thanks Edward for your reply, but I understand that you need a lot of mm's to take some decent take-off shots. I hope that I have enough mm's with my 100-400.

Hi Arthur,

Not too bad. With 300mm (450mm digital) you have a fighter fullframe from the side while on take-off. My take-off pics on page 2 are done with 300mm, so it can be done.

I would say, take it with you. It means just the difference between wheels in the grass or not while taking pics on the runway. See below, my Tornado is taken standing on a small 2-step ladder. Also, your car is just 100 metres behind you so you can go to it any time you like (you park inside the airbase) to get your steps or to bring it away.
