Beautiful picture Jim. The slow shutterspeed brings the smoke in motion.
It was a good guess to go to KB. Here are some of mine:

1. Totally suprised!

2. And the wend on and on.

3. Finally, gear down for f/s.

4. The spare did the same thing.

They did the same thing today, but why ?

Juuust checking: KeeBee is Northwest of Maastricht, isn't it? Ahh, probably that well informed press that made the mistake ;-)

We talked about it at KB: If a sonic boom occurred in The Netherlands, then all of the Dutch people call the authorities to complain. In Belgium, it wasn't an issue. People just know that it happens: "Oh, another boom...", then back to the daily things.
But now the boom was near the Dutch border so, all of Limburg reported it apparently. The Dutch are wimps, "watjes", and the Klu is listening to them...

I do not agree with you on that. A sonic boom gives social commotion. People hear a sound ("explosion") which people don't recognise. Sometimes windows even break. So I don't think that these people are wimps, they just react normal.

Does anyone know why jet fighers make sonic booms and what the purpose of it is ?

Copter,

Fighter jets make sonic booms in order to pass mach 1, in fact this just happens as sound waves overlap each order on breaking the sound barrier. The purpose of it is obviously going faster than mach 1.

The sonic booms by Kleine-Brogel F-16's are made during test-flights, hence the clean configuration of FA-135.

Cu!
