Hello again!
Sunday-morning I visited the great Imperial War Museum at Duxford. A real must for the aviation enthusiast. What a great museum and a big variety of planes. Photography is a challenge, as the planes are parked very close to each other. Here's a small impression.
This Shackleton is currently being overhauled and getting ready for a repaint. Also note the Victor in the background, which is undergoing the same treatment:
A very impressive flying boat, the Short Sunderland:
Star of the museum is this Concorde-prototype, which can be walked trough, which is very interesting. I never knew they had a escape-hatch built in, to be used in the case of an emergency for the crew to bail out of the plane by parachute:
Tucked away is this Comet:
Definitely one of the best looking planes around, the infamous TSR.2:
Large and impressive propliner; this Hastings:
Nice little Saudi Strikemaster:
Outside is a line-up of some of Britain's most iconic civil planes, starting with this BAC1-11 from BA:
Followed by this Viscount:
What a great plane; Bristol Britannia of Monarch:
Also nice, this Super VC-10:
Trident:
And finally this Herald from Air UK, but in quite a sorry state:
There is also a special American Air Museum at Duxford and near that hangar you encounter this F-15:
Planes are parked very tightly at the American Air Museum, so photography is difficult. Guess the plane:
Darth Vader:
Tucked away in the restoration hangar was this Pucara of the Fuerza Area Argentina, which was captured during the Falkland War:
And last, but not least, this Catalina:
There's much more to see, but I hope this pictures gave you an idea of what's there to see at Duxford.
