MXP/LIMC Milan Malpensa - 19/03/11 [CIV]

Post by Dysko »

Hi,
last saturday I went to Milan Malpensa airport in order to see an Antonov An-124 that should have loaded some Agusta helicopters (Agusta has its factory very close to Malpensa airport). Unfortunately, the flight was postponed to the next day, but I took some photos anyway.

Planes landing on runway 35L (that day being used for landing aircraft until 3 PM).

Airbus A340-313X Emirates - A6-ERT

Airbus A330-203 Qatar Airways - A7-AFM

These 2 planes were taxiing on taxiway H, a recently built taxiway that allows planes taking off on runway 35R to reach the runway without crossing runway 35L (the main terminal is west of both runways).

Airbus A340-64s Thai Airways International - HS-TNB

The sun changed position, and I had to find a new spot in order to take shots of planes landing on 35L.

Boeing 747-4B5F/SCD Korean Air Cargo - HL7467

Boeing 767-306/ER Neos - I-NDMJ

I didn't expect this one... take-offs on both runway 17L and 17R are very rare! This one is taking off from runway 17R.
Boeing 777-F6N China Cargo Airlines - B-2079

My last photo for the day, the weather was rapidly deteriorating, and in few hours there would have been a thunderstorm.

Thank you for viewing!

Awesome shots from Milan, Dysko. I received info that the An-124 headed to Subang Airport(WMSA/SZB), Malaysia to deliver the last 3 AW139 to Weststar Aviation(Malaysia). Did you manage to get the An-124's registration last Saturday? :)

Very nice pictures! It's good to see some stuff on the forum which we rarely see here.
Cheers,

Hi Dysko,

Could you tell me from where the p.m. landing shots were made? How "safe" is that location?

They are taken from a road that runs just south of the runways thresholds. Next to the road there is an unpaved path used both by pedestrians and bicyclers. You can recognise the spot easily, since there is a fortified tower used during WW2.
That spot is useful if airplanes are landing on runway 35L. For airplanes landing on runway 35R there is another spot, an unpaved parking near a glass factory.
The first spot is safe as long as you park your car out of the road and in a way that the unpaved path is not blocked. Also, be careful not to block the secondary entrance gates to the airport. Local police should not care about you, but sometimes they may ask you to leave (especially when there are El Al flights taking off or landing).
The second spot is safe, as far as I know spotters were never asked to leave from that spot.

If you need more infos, just ask. :)
