Beijing spotting November 2010 (updated)

Post by EC »

This years autumn trip brought me to Beijing, not my first visit but the last one had been when there were 2 runways and 2 terminals.
The airport has grown to 3 of each and the traffic has grown correspondingly.

I am happy to report that spotting is no problem in Beijing (as long as you visit civil airports). There are also some Chinese spotters
and all of us were standing openly on the acces road to the 3rd terminal. Police drove by several times and paid no attention to us what so ever.

Here is a first batch of images.

Ah, the "true comrades of communism" have modernised themselves. Soviet-style of course...

Great shots Eddy. It is frustrating to know that my 80-400 lens was there too, but I wasn't.....

Thanks Peter, your lens was certainly being used. Pitty it is a Nikon and does not fit to my Sony.
My Sony 70-400 stopped zooming on the first afternoon and my back-up lens is in a different (definately lower) quality range.

Awesome that you've captured the Air Koryo!!! :worship: :worship:
I'd love to capture on of those one day.. Even better would be if it was at Pyongyang airport itself.

Great series!

Kind regards, Jeffrey.

Thanks for the comments guys, I really appreciate.

we stayed in the airport garden hotel which is not expensive and very strategically placed.
We used taxis to move from morning to afternoon positions. They are very cheap, we rarely exceeded 15 yuan which is less then EUR 2.
It's a pitty you couldn't join us Paul. And yes the food was brutal, we had to eat chinees every morning and evening. I have become almost skillful with stokjes.
At least the pictures on the menu card gave you a clue of what you were ordering, but we found out that fried pigs intestins look very much like normal pieces of meat on a picture.

Here is another batch for your entertainment

Couldn't find the first Burger King in China at the airport....?
But regardless of the food problems, the pics look good.

I did not say what we ate for lunch
Terminal 2 has a Burger King and Pizza Hut express, Terminal 3 a Mac.

Mooie platen Eddy! Bedankt voor het posten. Ondanks dat ik bijna nooit meer op een vliegveld kom (behalve als ik moet vliegen) blijft het leuk, plaatjes uit den vreemde.
