Report trip to Switzerland (a.k.a. Spottersheaven), Mai 2010

Post by Sven van Roij »

Hi Y'all

My dad and I spend the last week and a half in Switzerland. For many years I wanted to visit this country, because of the beautiful pics I saw and most amazing stories I heard of it.

We spend a total of 11 days in Switzerland, and visited Payerne, Emmen, Meiringen, Erstfeld, Stans and Alpnach.

I'm afraid spotting at the 'Langebergseweg' in Gilze-Rijen is less exciting now I've been in Switzerland;). Damn, Switzerland is the place to get close to action! :D

We were very lucky with the weather. Though it was gray andcloudy, and the wind was blowing every day, it has hardly rained.

Anyway; here is a small selection of some 6000 photos. Hope you like them!

Erstfeld
We had the opportunity to pay a visit at a section of the REGA, stationed at Erstfeld Heliport. The A-109 was placed in the hangar, where a new mechanic was trained.

After several hours on Alpnach, we saw a Cougar with Bambi Bucket leave. We quickly ran into the mountains, looking for a spot to shoot some decent pics of the Cougars hovering low above the water. After a (intensive) 20 minute run, I saw the helicopter hanging. Unfortunately, there were quite a few trees and a slope of about 40 degrees between me and the waterside. Quite a steep descent, especially with a tripod and photocamera! Anyway, we decided to descend down the slope. When we arrived at the waterside, pulled up for the last time, and flew back to base! However, after 30 minutes or so, another Cougar made several runs. The pilots said goodbye in style: the hovered 30 meters in front of us above the lake, and their downwash almost drowed us ;). Tnx guys :yourock:.

26. Unfortunately this is the only shot that succeeded of the "farewell". After I took this pic, the glass of my UV filter got rather wet, so the other the pictures were quite blurry ;)

Al the pics have been token with a Canon EOS 40D body and (most of the pics, excl. the close-ups) with my Canon 100-400mm. Jimmy maneged to change some of the settings of the body, and... it really helped ;) :D
