Some old ladies standing in the Arizona landscape

Post by Thermal »

Was bored today so took a bike (in the US??? you should have seen the eyes of the cardrivers :D ) and made some pictures of the Arizona landscape. I'm really not into reg's and numbers but maybe some of the numbercrunshers will findsome pics usefull.

Seeing these made me very homesick :(

A very old lady.

This one has been so long at the airport that it has become part of the inventory

Goes for this one too. It is actually owned by Fed Ex. They never changed the colours after they bought it from United. One of my favourites, too bad she's in such a bad shape.

This is ex-Air Aruba PH-AHM, also Thomsonfly 762 G-BYAB is also stored there but could not make a decent picture
Image

Lots and lots of Continental and United (old a new colours) 737's, must be close to around 40 of them. Here only a few.

We call this one Air =censored=, it is actually one of the last (or perhaps thé last) DC-7 used by KLM (PH-DSR). It still has a lot of KLM logos inside. It had some other owners after KLM. It was bought a few years ago by a very religious family who have bought the plane to be the private plane for..........=censored= (the real one) when he returns to earth after 'the second coming'. Sounds ridiculous but it is actually a true story. Don't know if the family is still the owner.
Image

Like I said, lots of Continental stuff, also gives an impression how I took the pics  Some ics were actually made through the chickenfence, that would explain the dark area's.

P.S Nice to see that Photobucket screwed my pics up again after resizing. Does anyone have tips on this?

Sad sights... do you know why some of the aircraft are partially taped in aluminium foil?

It's not as sad as you might think. As far as I know, a lot of these A/C (the taped in ones) are waiting for better times and will fly again. The other day one of the Continental 737's left to go back in to service again.
The others like the 747 and DC-10 and the MD's will be scrapped for parts. They are being disassembled by a company called Aeroturbine who specialize in recycling airplane parts (specially engines).

It looks as if all pics are taken @ Goodyear, West-Southwest of Phoenix. South of Luke AFB. ;-)

All pics indeed taken at Goodyear Airport.
Be aware though that the spot I took the pics is not really accesible by car.
Try to park somewhere near 33°26'7.99"N 112°22'15.18"W and walk the last bit and take some ID with you because the police may come and check on you.

I was thinking the same thing. By the way, the DC-7 in question was actually the very last DC-7 to roll out of the factory before Douglas went over to the production of the DC-8. Another reason to rescue this fine aircraft from the Arizona desert.

Took all the pics outside. Don't think you can get in. I have already tried since I'm a student at the airfield so I do have ramp acces. But these planes are off limits.
You can tell that Americans are a bit more uncomfortable these days when they see someone with a camera near aicraft. I was visited twice by the police (different ones). After showing my student pass and ID they let me stay.

By the way: Boeing 747-412 N548MD (ex-Cathay B-HKD) just landed here for storage. Came in via Hong Kong and Anchorage. One day to late :(

Too bad for them to stay grounded instead of flying! :(
