Phabulous Phantoms @ Fightertown Hyakuri

Post by eriktex »

Hi all,

Last week I had the Monday off so I decided to make a nice day trip to Hyakuri. I had been there two years ago, but then I encountered a "no-fly day" . But this time it was so much better: lots of sunshine and flying operations from 9 am until after I left at 5 pm... :D .

Here are a few pictures of those beautiful Phantoms, hope you like them:

1. Usually the F-4EJ's taxied out with 3 or 4 aircraft:

2. Spot 3 in Scramble's airfield guide offers phantastic photo opportunities:

3. RF-4's usually left in a flight of 1 or 2:

4. Spot 3 also offers great views on the platform:

5. 501 Hikotai Phantoms are parked closest to this spot:

6. At this spot (good from early morning till around noon) three wooden platforms have been erected (sorry mum) offering excellent opportunities. Besides that, several wooden steps are provided, so on this side of the air base no step ladder is needed:

7. During the afternoon it is better to move to the other side. At this moment all aircraft use the new runway, which is VERY close to the fence:

8. At this spot you will need a step ladder indeed. Mine was a bit too low, but a quick friendship with a local Japanese bloke took me two meters high in the sky. Unfortunately the weed (onkruid) is growing tall here:

That's all for now folks,

Dino,

I guess I was lucky there. I have been there without any problems from 8:45 till around noon. I had to pay 2,500 Yen (17 Euro) to the owner of the land.

When I left the gate was closed indeed (not locked)! Perhaps there is a maximum to the number of visitors here (the land hold a small temple and some sort of tomb!). In any case, the lady who collected the money could not tell me - her English was not so good and I did not understand much of her Japanese (must have been some rare accent she had :D ).
