You really are improving your pics! Some are a bit out of focus but keep it coming!

Very nice to see an Allouette III crawling again on the Slopes.

Sven

Well, can't stay behind then......

I had a great day out at the slopes, thanks to the pleasant company of Jimmy and Yorick, as well as the appearance of an Alouette, a Chinook and two Apaches. The weather was pretty good, even hot at times.

Today also marked the entry of a hand held scanner, my new Uniden Bearcat 3500 XLT. Still have to get used to keaping an ear out for this little box, but it helped us catch the Fokker 50 in a hit-and-run attack from the Slopes to the Langenbergseweg.

Below you will find a selection of my personal favorites, processed on my laptop. So please forgive me if the contrast and dark spots are a bit harsh, as these are very diffucult to set correctly at a laptop.

Cheers,
Iwan

1. The Alouette 3 was the first one out to play at the Slopes today. I should have taken the effort take my ladder and to move to the right in order to shoot it from the sunny side. And a special note for the pilot: Thanks you for moving to the western slope !

Image

2. The Chinook was next to hit the Slopes. It did some nice hovering before Yorick's camera ran out of battery power. When we ran to my car to let him use my spare camera, the pilots caught us by surprise when they made a nice move towards us with the Chinook. Damn, if only I would have been prepared !

Image

3. When moving from runway 02 - 20 towards the western slope, the Apache passes a nice small open area with a great background, which is great for these kinds of shots. I'll bet that this shot will look even better in October, when all the leaves turn orange, brown, yellow and red.

Image

4. When leaving the western slope, this Apache posed for a dramatic shot. Clearly visible on its belly is a big K, which is obviously some sort of code. Can anyone tell me openly or privately which purpose it serves / served ? Apparently several more codes have been observed already, but only a few Apaches carry them.

Image

5. Nice and clean, hovering towards the slopes. Unfortunately the sun had just hidden behind a cloud, but it is still a nice angle to shoot. Especially with its full external stores, including the wing pods.

He Iwan,

It looks like your spare camera nowadays is your old 1d II workhorse. All photo's you posted are taken with your 5D II.

Nice and sharp I must say.

Need to visit the slopes as well soon (or maybe in the autumn). Care to join me...........

Best,
Anno

Nice set Iwan, good sharpness (5DII really does work well damn!) and lighting. Different poses really tickle the imagination. So this is called a good day at the slopes i guess.. :D

Yep, the old EOS-1D II was jobless yesterday. I wish it could have helped out poor Yorick, who ran out of battery power when the Chinook came along. Too bad the Chinook only made a short visit to the Slopes, and made a nice move just as I was about the get the 1D from the car.

Just give me a call when you want to hit the Slopes later this year. Depending on my work shift, I may be able to join you for a half day or even a whole day. Autumn will be a great time of year when it comes to colors......

Cheers,
Iwan

PS: This shot was taken last season:

the big K is so that the guys on the ground can speak to the helikopter, without having to strain there eyes trying to read the Q- number of the apache.
K & L are the only letteres I have seen so far on the dutch apache's.
But the ones in afghanistan are bound to have letters.

good shots here!
