Bolivian snapshots, Cochabamba

Post by canberra »

Today (08Jul09) I had a day out in Cochabamba for what should have been the first flight of Lineas Aereas Canedo's Curtiss C-46 Commando in 6 years. Unfortunately it didn't happen today (tomorrow it should, but without me as witness).

First a shot of the wonder that was the reason for my trip to Cochabamba today. CP-973 Curtiss C-46 Commando Lineas Aereas Canedo
Image

Then an other wonderful machine, and this one actually brought me from La Paz to Cochabamba. CP-1366 Boeing 727-200wl Lloyd Aereo Boliviano/Aerosur
Image

Although I didn't manage to catch a flying Commando the trip was a great success as we were able to attend a ceremony at the Politécnico Militar de Aviación in Cochabamba.

One of two new helicopters presented was this orange beast, FAB-754 Aérospatiale AS.350B3 Fuerza Aerea Bolivia
Image

Three PC-7s made a few passes, here two of them, FAB-467 and FAB-471 Pilatus PC-7 Fuerza Aerea Bolivia
Image

Also a few older helicopters made fly-bys, first FAB-730 Helibras HB.315B Lama Fuerza Aerea Bolivia
Image

And also the surviveing Venezuelan gift, FAB-747 Sud Aviation SA.316B Alouette III Fuerza Aerea Bolivia
Image

Here the both disappear behind the threes only to return for some more fly-bys
Image

A couple of instructional and preserved frames live at the Politécnico. Among those, this 'thing' FAB-311. Any ideas what that is :?:

Well that was it for now, all the best, Michael

The preserved aircraft at the PMA is a Curtiss Wright CW-22. When I visited this place late 1994 it was marked PMA-01.
Do you also have some pictures of the instructional airframes here ??

Can you help me with google / GPS coordinates of this place. It is a long time ago I have visited this place.

Thanks for this one, I am totally lost with that sort of types :o

Main facillity is 17°27'4.85"S 66° 8'24.17"W gate guard Curtiss is 17°26'50.97"S 66° 8'27.50"W. The aircraft in the main facility have moved a around a bit since the GE photo, only the PC-7 is in the same location.

FAB-631 is the preserved T-33, also there is FAB-458 PC-7, but wasn't lucky enough to get a good photo of that one as it was behind the stage with among other President Morales.
Image

This unknown (to me) very sorry looking UH-1 was one of the instructionel frames
Image

FAB-322 was one of two Cessna 206s, the other one didn't carry any marks but was maybe ex CP-1253 Ce.TU206D
Image

FAB-755 was the other new Aérospatiale AS.350B3
Image

And last CP-2476 Boeing 737-200 Aerosur breaking after landing
Image

Also saw CP-2438 Boeing in full Aerosur Paraguay colours but only got a short for documentation, fellow spotter Jonathan Olguin (http://www.aviacionboliviana.net/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) did much better while I was sitting in the plane back to La Paz see his photo on Skyliner

Despite seeing other good stuff, FAB-97 a new Casa 212, FAB001 NA265 and FAB-010 Learjet 25, am afraid thats it from this trip, when it come to photos.

All the best, Michael
