Hi all,

And now part3. Most of them are taken from the slopes near the airport. A great place for photography.

Brgds, Peter

44. First a shot of the “Airport View”, snackbar and cafetaria which is situated near the end of runway 25. This is a good place to be when runway 07 is in use, but that happens not too often unfortunately.
Image

45. A shot of the same Cafetaria taken from the slopes. On the righthand side, inside the perimeter fence was the place where the remains of the UAE Airbus A300 used to be. They cleared the place up. Don't know where the remains went.
Image

46.An overview of the airport: the Air China 767 parked in front of the tower. Further: two TUIfly 737-800's, the all-white Airbus A330-200 CS-TFZ, Adria A320 S5-AAB, a Centralwings 737-400, an Aegean A320 and 737-400, the SkyExpress SX-IDI and Cessna Citation SX-BMK.
Image

47. Aeean Airbus climbing out after take-off from runway 25. In the background the Turkish coastline.
Image

48. All white Airbus A330-200 CS-TFZ was operating for Thomas Cook Scandinavia and is seen just getting airborne.
Image

49. Travel Service 737-800 OK-TVA still in hybrid Oman Air colours climbing out.
Image

50. TUIfly Nordic 737-800 SE-DZN with the Turkish coastline in the background again.
Image

51.TUIfly 737-800 D-AHFD is seen here in the turn from the highspeed taxiway
Image

52. And finally a shot of a Seagle Air 737-300.

Hi all,

This last part is a small series of different shots. The shots are not taken at the airport, but in different places at the island of Rhodos.

First some shots taken from the hill of Filimeros, a well-known tourist site with a monastery and a great vantage point and a very big cross. You can actually go inside this cross and climb to the top from which you have an even better view. :D

I hope you liked the photos and can use the info when you visit the island.

Brgds, Peter

53. From Filimeros looking to the East you can see the old airport of Maritsa. This one is officially closed, but it is now a military base from which the Hellenic Air Force still operates with helicopters.
Image

54. Another view of Maritsa and if you take a close look you can see a Cougar on the ramp at the lefthand side of the tower (in the middle of the photo)
Image

55. To the Southwest of Filimeros you can see part of the airport of Diagoras, actually only a part of runway 25 and the taxiways. The hill on the left hand side is where I took the take-off shots in my previous post.
Image

56. And when visiting the monastery of Panayia Kyra on the East side of the island I was unexpectedly treated on a fly-by of a Hellenic Air Force/SAR AS-532A2 Cougar (2584).

Nice shots Peter!
Can you come closer to the airport of Maritsa to take pictures of the Cougar?

Hi Sander,

As far as I know (and heard from others) it is not possible, but I have not tried it myself. Maybe others know and maybe also if they have some sort of flight scheme each day? Apparently they fly quite regularly.

Try google earth 36°22'47.09"N 28° 6'57.78"O there is a road just south of the apron. I dont know however if it is a good idea to thake pictures from that position. :picture: :police: :stick: Google shows two helicopters on the apron.

Don't try. Last year 2 people of our hotel where in trouble making pictures of each other on the road close to the airport. Airbase was not visible at all and they even did not know that an airbase was close. Remember that you are very close to turkey.

It's also very silent over there. During our stay there where only 2 heli's. I heard them only early on the morning and in the evening on the scanner but all communication was in Greek.
