This is the forum to share your recent aviation photos with the rest of the community, being photos not older than six months at the moment of topic opening. Theme-based topics, not about recent events, should go into the sub-forum. Although we will not screen beforehand, we reserve the right to delete any images, especially if clearly unsharp or otherwise low in quality. For more information on how to upload you images, check this post. In topic titles, please use airfield names in stead of just codes, and be clear about what kind of photos your viewers can expect (e.g. CIV/MIL, location etc.). Finally, bring any photo criticism understandable and to the point, not cynical or offensive! Simultaneously, do not feel offended by criticism per se, but simply explain your motives, taste et cetera, or ignore if you wish so. |
As far i know they uses " Glycol" it's a Dutch word.Thermal wrote:Bit off topic but with what fluid are planes ´de-iced´???
As far as I konw Type III does not excist...or I never heard of it.McLanahan wrote:used: I, II, III or IV
Partially true...allthough it looks easy to 'spray' an aircraft it is a VERY important job/task.mipo72 wrote: Anyone confirm this???....

Ah, but it does (even though it may not be used as often)! It's primarely used for turboprop aircraft because the fluid is formulated to be blown off during a short, low speed, take-off (low "shear speed" for turboprops).gatso76 wrote:Type III does not excist.
Funny pictures. It looks like the KLM a/c is attacked by aliensmipo72 wrote:Hi,
Due to the "frozen" days i start a topic from De-Icing shots.
All those shots are taken in the last past days @ Schiphol.
So annoying this Holdover Time can be, especially at 'on spot de-icing' performed at AMS by some handling companies (e.g. Menzies). In case they use a 75/25 mix fluid, and weather conditions are e.g. Freezing Fog, holdover time is very short, and in case of a long taxi to runway 36L for takeoff, with heavy traffic and 36C in use, holdover time might be short and you cannot takeoff, which means return to the spot for another jobgatso76 wrote:-check the weather due to Holdover Time,
At CPH the de-icers are quite good and very service mindedMcLanahan wrote: Regarding the Scandinavian 737 in the pictures; I'm sure the crew was pretty annoyed with the de-icers as they wouldn't have been able to see a lot
Good to see! Hopefully they will clean the nose as well as you can get some residual fluid on the windscreen during the take off roll and rotation. But that's not too bad compared to having the whole windscreen blurred with de-ice fluid! And at least on the 73 you can open your DV window, empty a bottle of water and clean it yourself...SilverWingPix wrote:At CPH the de-icers are quite good and very service minded
