OLD (pictures from the eighties!)

Post by Heron »

Goodmeurnin',

Finally I've been able to get my old slidescanner to work. however on a laptop with Win98...
So here are a few pictures of Schiphol and Rotterdam in 1984 and 1985.

01 B747-206B N1295E "Ganges" of KLM sitting at the D-pier (which was at that time the newest) on 7 january 1984.
Image

02 DC-8-55F EC-DBE of Aviaco in the take-off from runway-24 on 7 january 1984. This used to be PH-MAS of Martinair.
In the background are a V.953 Merchantman of Air Bridge and a B707F of TMA Libanon.
Image

03 DDR-SDL, a Tupolev-134A of Interflug on the apron of Rotterdam on 3 july 1984.
The (few) passengers were picked up with cars with Corps Diplomatique markings.
Image

04 In 1985 te A310 was still new in the KLM-fleet.
This is the first, PH-AGA "Rembrandt" during landing on runway-06 of Schiphol on 5 january 1985.
Image

05 PH-BUG, a B747-206B named "Orinoco", using reverse thrust after landing on 06 on 5 january 1985.
Image

06 When I'm correct 1985 was the last year KLM flew the DC-8. This is DC-8-63 PH-DEE "Abel Tasman" on 5 january 1985. Even then those yellow-red signs tried to get in the way...
Image

07 PH-DNK "Copenhagen", a DC-9-32 of KLM, seen on 5 january 1985.
Image

08 PH-DTD "Maurice Ravel", a DC-10-30 of KLM at the D-pier on 5 january 1985.
Image

09 The predecessor of the goverment aircraft of today (Fokker-70 PH-KBX) was this Fokker F.28-1000 Fellowship PH-PBX.
Image

10 In those days one could easily be bored with the BAC One-Elevens of British Airways and BCal.
This is G-AWYS "Isle of Bute", a 111-501EX of British Caledonian on 5 january 1985.
Image

11 Swissair still existed and they used to fly fo and from Schiphol with the DC-9, in this case HB-IFU "Chur", an DC-9-32.
In the background El-Al Cargo B747 (4X-AXD) and DC-8-55F TR-LVK of Affretair.
Image

12 And this is JA8106, an B747-246B of Japan Air Lines on 5 january '85.
Image

13 PK-GSF "City of Denpasar", a B747-2U3B of Garuda.
Image

14 PP-VMB, a DC-10-30 of VARIG.
Image

15 SX-CBA "Mount Olympos", the first B727-284 of Olympic.
Image

16 YU-AHM "Tivat", a DC-9-32 of JAT with extra "Official Olympic Carrier"-titles.
Image

17 YV-137C, a DC-10-30 of VIASA on 5 january 1985 at Schiphol.
Image

18 And finally a picture made on 16 may 1985, when Air Holland had just started flying with two B727's. This is PH-AHD, a B727-2H3, so it's an ex Tunisair example.
In the background a Transavia B737-2K2 (behind the nose) and DC-8-55F TR-LVK of Affretair.
Image

That's all for now. I guess I might get around to a few sessions of slidescanning this winter

Greetingsenzo,
Bert.

Hi Bert,

Great retro report. For some reason the old fleet seemed to look more interesting than the current aircraft. And the winter scene makes your report even more beautiful to look at.

Thanks for sharing !

Cheers,
Iwan

Good show Bert!

Indeed a trip down memory-lane..
Think I got most of these aircraft as well, albeit on black&white (only started slides in 1985)
wow, were we bored by all those DC-9's.... :?

Absolutely great! It's such a shame I wasn't aroiund yet, when these aircraft visited AMS (and when there was such nice snow...)!

Yes, that was because you had to come and wait along the runway for special flights.
No BBS or messageboard with flight details in 85.

I also have recently started to scan my old slides. A few examples below.

This old workhorse from TAP was later sold to the Italian Airforce. Here seen after landing in June 1986. I believe a 707 from Nile Safaris is seen in the background.
<a><img src="/http://i392.photobucket.com/albums/pp7/ ... mg008a.jpg" border="0" alt="B707"></a>

Only the registration shows the previous owner of this 707. Royal Jordanian, or Alia as it was then known. It visited Schiphol many times in the 70's and 80's. It made a short stop at Schiphol on its delivery flight to Florida West in May 1986.
<a><img src="/http://i392.photobucket.com/albums/pp7/ ... mg010a.jpg" border="0" alt="B707"></a>

Not exactely 1984 or 1985 but still memories from times when spotting was indeed a case of wait and see what turns up (or not).
