Check the EXIF you'll notice he used a Canon 40D, a 70-200mm f2.8 IS and (sometimes) an 1.4 x extender. If you use Firefox, there is a nice plugin called 'Exif Viewer 1.45'. Right click on an image and you can see/read the EXIF info (if still present in the picture). A very useful tool.
