Spangdahlem 05-09-2008

Post by Hopla »

Today me and my wife went to Spangdahlem. We where on the way back home from a nice holliday close to Trier. During holliday I heard already the flights of Italo Tornado's out of Spang. From of wednesday they where fighting in the Tra205 above our holliday house. They departed at 10h00 and at 16h00 CET. All day with 4 aircraft at the same time and one day also 4 + 1. Every time they departed to Ramsteing and then into TRA205.

On the internet I read that also Italo AMXen where expected on friday so friday seemed to be a good day for hunting Italo's.

The tornado's are parked on ramp-2 (From the scanner). This is on the south side of the field I think but not sure where it is. Don't know where the AMX are standing.

When we waked upit was unbelievable foggy but at 8:30 we where surprised by departing F-16's so wheather at Spang was maybe better. When we arrived at Spang the weather became better. Unfortunatly at the time of the arrival of the Italo's it became less nice.

When we left I think a herc came in, which could have been the expected Italo herc. Also a C5 departed. Bear in mind that around 16 F-16's left thursday to Turkey.

We where visited by security and polizei but no problem at the approach lights.

Finaly some pictures.

1. When we arrive A10's where coming in.

Maybe a little bit strange but if you crop number 10, that would be my favourite :D Nice series

Nice pictures considering the weather. What spot were they taken from?

All very nice shots you took there! Your no. 9 Tornado with its impressive color scheme defenitely is my favourite though. As a matter of fact, I spent part of my holiday in and near Trier as well. Due to lack of time I didn't manage to visit Spangdahlem (or Büchel), yet low-flying Tornado's, C-5's and A-10's made my day all the same!

Kind regards,
Roeland
