Can somebody help me identify this US Navy DHC6? Also I would like to know what its purpose is (atmosferic research?)

Photo was taken last month at Opa Locka airport, Miami Florida.

Thanks in advance

 Can't really help with your question but this certainly is a nice catch! Had never read anything about a USN DHC-6... The BuNo presentation looks like those Air Force aircraft on loan by the Navy: 76-2256.

Correct Michael, and it's an UV-18A this way. Is in the Scramble USAF db, still has to be added to our USN db.

Dear All,

It is/was already in the database as N83NX . It was first seen as N83NX in dec98. According to the FAA registered to the navy on 11dec98. Since then it was never reported anymore to us. This sighting is the first one reported in years and so it seems to have gained a navy buno. It will be changed in the database to 762256/256 as a UV-18A. Thanks for all the info and help.

Greetings,

Tim Raats
