Ho Chi Minh City December 2023

Post by EC »

Another stop on our Asia tour was Ho Chi Minh City. As a good communist country it has a fence around the airport. Spotting is however possible from a number of cafe's with balconies on the 2nd to 4th floor that conveniently look over de fence upon the airport. These pictures were taken from "Cathay Coffee" were we felt most welcome as early as 6.45 in the morning. Traffic is dominated by Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet with a rather slimmed down Bamboo also at home here.

Nice. One of very few options to photograph operational military aircraft there I guess. How long did you stay, to get this "yield"?

Thanks for the compliments !

We were there for 5 days spread over 2 weeks, Ho Chi Minh is not a militairy base which makes it possible to take pictures without problems there.
I understand that the arrival of a mil 8/17 is a regular occurence around 8 o'clock in the morning on a Saturday. The CN295 we caught on the first day (Thursday) we were there and have not seen it flying again, it was still parked when we flew out the next Saturday. The CN212 did not land but made 2 approaches on what looked like a training flight.

Did they finally moved the transport base out of the civilian airport? When I was there before covid, the airport had at least a dozen AN-26s and few other military planes on the 'military' ramp. Unfortunately for me, I didn't experience the weather like you did :)
All my shots were taken from the taxing airplane or from the terminal.
