Washington-Dulles & Reagan August 2022 (CIV + 1 MIL)

Post by LifelinerOne »

Hej all,

for work I needed to be in Baltimore and the quickest way was to fly directly from Amsterdam to Washington. As I never been in Washington, I added a bit of the weekend to the trip, also for some planespotting.

Washington-Dulles 5 August 2022
Shortly after arriving, I made my way to the top-level of Parking Garage 1 to photograph a few arrivals. The visit was cut short however due to a massive thunderstorm...

1. Anyway, just before the storm, this was the most interesting captured plane, this B787-9 CN-RGX of Royal Air Maroc:

The next morning, I started a quick drive around the airport, stopping at the Dulles Jet Center and Jet Aviation. Most interesting seen here were:

1. Cessna 680 HI985 from Helidosa:

2. And this nice Legacy N470DC:

Then it was time for a trip to the very impressive Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. Really worth a visit, featuring iconic aircraft as the B707-prototype, the Concorde and the Space Shuttle.

Washington-Reagan National 6 August 2022

After I've finished the museum, it was time to slowly make my way to DC, with a stop at Reagan-National. There, I spotted from Gravelly Point Park. Reagan is quite a busy airport but not one with the best diversity of airlines. You will mainly encounter the big US-airlines with aircraft up to the size of the B757. It does provide, however, some nice spotting locations and it was a good opportunity to catch-up on some holes in my US-fleets.

1. The approach to runway 19 requires the aircraft to make some (sharp) turns on final, enabling some not so standard approach shots as this Delta B757-200 N707TW shows:

2. This is an United Express CRJ-500 (N520GJ), a modified CRJ-700 featuring less seats and more premium seating:

3. Air Canada is the only international airline at DCA, seen here with this Express CRJ-900 C-GOJZ:

4. A nice break from all the American and Southwest aircraft is this A320neo N379FR of Frontier Airlines:

5. JetBlue is also a nice change, seen here with this ERJ190 N323JB:

Washington-Dulles 12 August 2022
On this day, I would fly back to Amsterdam but before that, I started with some planespotting. First stop was at the parking-lot of the Chick-Fil-A in Chantilly, from where you have the possibility to photograph aircraft on approach to runway 01R.

1. Always nice to capture the B717, like this N977AT of Delta:

2. Porter Airlines DHC-8-400 C-GKQI is seen here on approach after a hop from Toronto:

3. One of the two daily Qatar Airways-flights was operated by this Oneworld-liveried B777-300ER A7-BAF:

4. United's N37522 is a B737-9 and looking nice in the sun:

5. Then it was time to return the rental car but before doing so, I stopped at the Dulles Jet Center where this surprise was waiting; Mexican Navy CL-605 ANX-1203! Light was not the best but still nice!

6. After checking-in, I struggled to find a good spot in the terminal until I entered the Air France-KLM lounge, which actually had nice views, enabling shots like this Aer Lingus A321NX EI-LRA:

7. Or some smaller stuff like this ERJ145XR N12136 of United Express:

Hope you liked them!

Cheers!
